Z FILMS INC. is an award-winning Canadian production company known for creating innovative, thought-provoking films that span fiction, theatre adaptations, social documentaries, and the performing arts. With a strong track record of international recognition, Z Films has built its reputation by producing stories that resonate across cultures and platforms. Whether fiction and non-fiction, their focus is to tell stories that explore current issues with a historical emphasis.
Their first production, Half the Kingdom, a co-production with the NFB—set the tone for its commitment to socially relevant and artistically bold storytelling, (TVO, Channel 4 and SBS) established Z Films on the world stage. Since then, Z Films has produced a wide range of acclaimed projects, including:
• Exposure: Environmental Links to Breast Cancer (CBC, TVO), with renowned singer and actor Olivia Newton-John.
• Punch Me in the Stomach (CBC, PBS, TV3 New Zealand), a Canada–New Zealand co-production blending theatre and film.
• The Atwood Stories (W Network), a dramatic anthology series adapted from the short stories of acclaimed author Margaret Atwood.
• We Are Here (documentary channel), a powerful feature documentary exploring identity, resilience, and community.
• After Munich (documentary channel/Radio-Canada), a gripping feature documentary investigating the aftermath of the 1972 Munich Olympics tragedy.
