COHORT 5 PARTICIPANT

Émilie Martel is a Franco-Ontarian producer, director, and writer of mixed Québécois and Huron-Wendat ancestry, and a proud member of the Wendat First Nation. She is the founder of Kannon Films, a boutique production company dedicated to developing original fiction and non-fiction projects with a focus on women-centered stories, cultural diversity, and environmental themes.

Her work has been supported by Telefilm (2024), Hot Docs Incubator and CrossCurrents (2019, 2024), Ontario Creates (2025), the Bell Fund (2024), the Canada Council for the Arts (2019, 2022), the Ontario Arts Council (2020, 2021, 2023) and others.

Émilie produced and directed Alias Marie-Soleil (Radio-Canada/TFO, 1×48 min), a documentary portrait franco-ontarien identity; directed Au cœur du Yukon (UnisTV, 7×52 min); created, co-wrote, and co-directed Gang de hockey (TFO, 8×13 min), a teen fiction series about girls in hockey; and wrote and directed Petites bouchées du monde (TFO, 29×13 min), an unscripted tween cooking series nominated for a Prix Gémeaux. Other credits include the animated series Les Métis (TFO, 19×13 min), Cuisine urbaine et sauvage (Bell, 5×11 min), and 180 (TVA/TFO, 14×22 min).

She is a recipient of the NSI Access BIPOC Producer program, WIDC Women in the Director’s Chair, and the Banff Diversity of Voices Initiative (2018–2020, 2024). In 2018, she received the Canadian Women Artists’ Award from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Émilie is currently developing her feature-length theatrical documentary Land of No Pain, alongside a slate of fiction and documentary projects supported by the CMF, Bell Fund, and other partners.
