Danielle Sturk

Since 2004, Danielle has been dedicated to creating bold, authentic screen-based projects which have the power to open a collective dialogue on feminism and social issues.
Her hybrid documentary EL TORO (2018) earned a 2020 nomination from the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) Allan King Award for Best Documentary Film and garnered a spot on the 2019 Hot Doc Film Festival Top 5 Audience Pick list. It was awarded two Golden Sheaf Awards at the 2019 Yorkton Film Festival, one for Best Director Non-Fiction and one for Best Experimental Film. It is airing on GEM and CBC Documentary Channel.
In 2023, Sturk adapted the documentary into a 6-part, one-hour drama series, which she single-handedly wrote and directed. The original series was broadcast on Radio Canada’s prime time network and is available to stream on ICI TOU.TV and Apple TV. The series received nominations for a 2023 DGC Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Miniseries and a 2024 Golden Sheaf Award for Best Series from the Yorkton Film Festival.
Sturk directed multiple episodes of the dramatic series PADRE for UNIS TV (2022) and of the series EDGAR for Crave and Bell Super Channel (2021) for which she was nominated for the DGC Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Dramatic Series.
Sturk is currently writing a dramatic feature with support from the Canada Council For The Arts, the Manitoba Arts Council and the Winnipeg Arts Council, developing a documentary with CBC and producing a scripted series with ICI. TOU.TV.
