COHORT 3 PARTICIPANT

Ruth Goodwin

I am a producer, writer, director, and actor based in Toronto. After earning a dual degree in Drama and Economics, I started my career as a Segment/Chase Producer for CTV’s ‘Canada AM’ and ‘National News’. While there, in 2014, I co-founded The Howland Theatre Company which has gained critical acclaim over the last eight years including four Dora Awards, three “Best of Toronto Fringe” Awards and two Theatre Critics Awards. It was with Howland where I’ve cut my teeth learning to fundraise, grant write, incorporate as a charitable non-profit, hire a board and market for productions. In 2018 I produced the short film 'Stuck', which currently streams on Amazon Prime with over 38 million views. I have acted in multiple shows most recently as a Series Regular for three seasons on 'Private Eyes' (Global TV) and as a Supporting Lead in the Ron Howard produced film, 'Wedding Season' (Netflix). As a new director I have shadowed Catherine Reitman on the set of 'Workin’ Moms' as well as Shawn Pillar on the set of Private Eyes. For the past 6 months a series I co-created titled has been in development with Frantic Films under oversight of former Head of CBC Comedy, Michelle Daly.
Last year I co-founded Good Eve Productions alongside Aisha Evelyna and directed our inaugural film, 'The Strangers’ Case'. It will premiere at the Toronto Black Film Festival in February, and we are currently in talks with CBC Gem about it landing on their streaming service.
