Amy Bohigian has written, directed and produced award-winning films funded by the NFB and distributed by Films Media Group. Her latest documentaries, Dreamers and Dissidents (2015) and Only in Nelson (2019) were both commissioned by BC’s public broadcaster, Knowledge Network. Her first feature-length documentary, Conceiving Family (2011), won Best Documentary at Women in Film Festival Vancouver 2012. In 2021 Amy received Creative BC’s and Canadian Media Producer’s Association Equity and Emerging Development funding for Southern Interior, a comedy TV sketch series based in Nelson BC. She was selected to attend the Pacific Screenwriting Institute/Whistler Film Festival Storyroom Workshop in 2021. She was named a Hot Docs Accelerator Fellow in 2014 and was awarded a Shaw Media Scholarship in 2011, both through the Hot Docs Festival.
Amy founded Watershed Productions Inc. in 2007 offering a full slate of video production services for clients across Canada and the United States. Amy’s work has played on the screens of Air Canada flights, urban and small town cinemas, and across social media platforms worldwide.
She earned her Diploma in Independent Filmmaking from Selkirk College in 2007 and has been a guest lecturer and faculty member with Kootenay School of the Arts at Selkirk College in Nelson BC since 2012. Amy earned her Masters in Education from Harvard University in 1999 and worked as a manager in the educational and non-profit sector for over a decade before turning her passion for filmmaking into a full time career.
